My teaching philosophy is centered around the wholistic nature of education, and the individuality of all children. Education is not just at school, it starts at home, and how the home environment influences the children is equally if not more important than the environment at school. Education should cater to not only the academic needs, but also the personal, social, and emotional needs of learners. The way that children learn is influenced by how they are made to feel, so my goal is to make every child feel safe, wanted, and free to explore in my classroom by providing diverse opportunities for inquiry and self expression.
Classroom Management
My classroom management plan is centered around the Love and Logic approach to classroom management and is greatly influenced by Conscious Discipline practices. There will be procedures that will be taught at the very beginning of the year and these procedures will be reinforced consistently throughout the course of the school year. There will be logical consequences for breaking procedure, but learners should never be made to feel like they are bad because they failed to meet standard. However, there will be high expectations for behavior from my students. I believe that if you set the bar high with behavior expectations, the children can and will rise to the occasion. My job is to keep each child safe and ensure that their environment is suitable for learning. The students will help me make that goal a reality by following procedures and understanding classroom expectations.
